Tattoos

So, in release 6 there will be the opportunity to get tattoos.  These will be permanent and will either have an effect when applied, or more likely, have a constant effect from now on.  This ranges from minor stat changes, to monsters much preferring taking you anally, to having a chance to aggro friendly monsters just by talking to them.

Currently tattoos are obtained from an automated tattoo machine in the hotel.  The machine accepts an item as payment, and then tries to base its decision on what tattoo to give you based on the item you gave away.  If the game decides that tattoo is not appropriate for you right now, it'll give you a random different tattoo instead.

Whilst on average most tattoos are bad for you, there are some useful ones available so it's probably worth experimenting with chucking different items in there and seeing what happens.

I have plans to soon have this machine able to apply some kind of permanent make up as well.

  1. Maybe it could apply the makeup instead of the tattoo when the tattoo would be "inappropiate" since I'm guessing the bimbo score will likely determine whether a tattoo is suitable or not. (Or humiliation/both I guess)
Also: Will it apply make up that is permament or will it make existing make up permament?
Both have pros and cons (gameplay-wise):
Applying is a "slow" process since it probably applies 1 "point" of make up at a time.
"Permanizing" could give you a lot of trouble quickly or you may get away scot-free with no makeup on. (or something different happens)

    1. Forgot to ask: Will it also prevent make up resets upon fainting?

  2. Neat! You rock, Aika!

  3. Ew, tattoos. Right there with piercings in the category of shit I'm weirdly against despite all the other stuff that gets me off. I'm glad they will be effectively optional. If that changes in the future, methinks a new starting fetish selection is in order.

    1. I'm not into basically any tattoos myself, too aggressive. But something slutty like "anal queen" that pops out and grabs the attention of onlookers, wanted or not, is a turn on. Majalis is to thank for that this quite recent change of heart though.

  4. I like the idea, though its hard to think of an in-universe reason your character would GET a tattoo intentionally.

    1. Maybe if they were advertised as being magical tats (without saying what effects they have) then someone could go for them.

  5. Unless Aika were to decide to create a prologue game-within-the-game that wouldn't so much act as a tutorial for people new to inform7 but rather the player-character and how items and stats impacted players to a rudimentary level, perhaps teasing them with the sense of adventure to imply the need to experiment with strange objects for better rewards. Overtly complications: This would be a perfect chance to implement a secret perk system that bases itself on your choices and actions within the mini-game. Along with just a plain ole' manual selection of perks just to quick-start the game. I've reminded myself of Hellmoo despite only playing that game a few hours before getting bored.

My intentions of pushing for a perk system are bleeding quite obviously.

  6. Aika already gave us a perfectly good reason for getting a tattoo in-game: some of them are beneficial. There's no good reason for the advertizements to tell us just how low the number of 'good' tats is in proportion to the number of 'bad' tats, though. XD

...am I the only one who can foresee a kinky tattoo artist as a future monster? Probably roaming in a mall or urban area, giving the player a 'penalty' tattoo if they get beaten instead of just outright fucking them...heh. Could just as easily add piercings, too, if they end up being added to the game as well.

    1. How does someone in-game know they are beneficial though?

    2. Eh, just slap an advertisement billboard on it. Maybe different flavor text depending on the players status like "Maybe I shouldn't trust weird adverts..." to "That sounds like it might hurt, but a magic tattoo could be really useful..." to the obvious "Ooh! Can I get a pink butterfly on my boob?"

    3. Also might be cool if having high intellect gave some vague clues to what might be good items to use, maybe even low int changing that to false clues. Or a high bimbo score making you unintentionally pick the wrong tattoo somehow.

    4. I was thinking the same thing, red. Or possibly a mechanic like the amazon dragging the PC to smoke: instead of fighting she drags you to the tat machine and straps you into it.
