Some experimental gameplay changes

The annoyingly small amount of time I've had to work on TQ this week has been spent on trying to balance the existing mechanics a bit. Lots of numbers have been tweaked. The most notable changes are as follows:
  • Standing upright without heels halves the amount of fatigue you gain.
  • You can no longer put on any clothing whilst in combat (an unfriendly monster being in your location)
  • Chances of falling over when kneeing and kicking slightly reduced
  • Amount of fatigue added by kicking massively reduced
  • The chance of asking the skill learning question at low intelligence ranks has been increased
  • The chance of orgasming during sex has been significantly increased when horny
  • The previous attacking code rolled a random number based on your strength to decide what sized dice to roll, which was way too random. Now there's only one stage of dice rolling which makes your damage a bit less wildly variable.

  1. Gotta say I like all of what I hear! I usually am too frightened to knee or kick because I fall most of the time (except when I find ballerina shoes early on and get mad heel skill boosts maybe).

The rest of the changes makes a lot of sense too, I'm really liking where this is headed. Not only am I really excited for all the new content, the gameplay tweaks seem great as well. You're doing a great job Aika, thanks for all your hard work!

    1. Will generally mirror this. When kicking/kneeing/slapping were added as variant attacks, I always felt the chance to trip was too high even with good heel skill. I suppose this then compounds with the dice issue, where one fight you might obliterate a mob, while the next it lasts forever due to low rolls, thus upping the chance to trip by proxy.

Long term, a part of me fears getting specific items may wind up too difficult given RNG and the glut of things added over time. Especially with undo removed in v6 even if I didn't really enjoy using it to try for specific things.

  2. This sounds awesome, actually. Thinking about those changes makes me feel like the content will be a bit more accessible if you DO happen to lose, but you still have a good fighting chance, and perhaps a way to conserve energy inbetween fights by removing shoes and then putting them on a room away in preperation. It also makes curses much more deadly in that regard.

  3. Ok, so you can't put clothing on, but what about taking it off?

    1. Pretty certain that's remaining the way it was, Aika specifically mentioned putting clothes on and nothing else, not changing clothes or using clothes, -putting on-

  4. I'm getting really hyped. Looking forward to playing it. Thanks for all the detailed mechanics updates. :)

  5. Gotta ask, though. When will this awesomeness be released?

    1. Aika's said that it would be in October. Early if things are on time, late October if there are delays. History would suggest there are always delays (because, you know, life) so late October would be my guess assuming nothing major comes up.

    2. It is worth remembering that the original ETA for 0.6 was late December.. of last year. So saying that delays might push it to later in the same month is being a bit.. optimistic.

    3. And this is why I don't like making ETA's. This isn't my main job or anything so it's difficult to be able to guess how much time I will get. Also I always find myself spending way more time then planned because I want the finished product to be good.

    4. do you know the 90-90 rule?

"The first 90 percent of the code accounts for the first 90 percent of the development time. The remaining 10 percent of the code accounts for the other 90 percent of the development time."

    5. And to be fair, there's been a LOT more content for which people have donated than I imagine anyone expected. If you keep adding things to the game while it's being made, of course it's going to take longer to write.

    6. "do you know the 90-90 rule?"

You mean the 80-20 rule, or the Pareto Principle. 20% of the total effort produces 80% of the code, while the remaining 80% of effort produces 20%. Why? I guess it's because those tiny little details that'll give you tons of work.

    7. Anyone who's ever coded knows that coding is putting together a bunch of jibberish and THEN trying to make it work correcty. lol! You get the general idea. We (or I, at any rate) understand how long it could take, especially if it isn't your main life goal to produce smuttyness for your internet followers... Which are almost certainly all pervs.

    8. @Aika

You have been making a difficult game. Fantasies are difficult to express if they are not yours. The fact that so many people admire and follow your game says a lot about you.

Thank you very much for the game you work on. It is a lot of fun.

  6. Sup! ^_^
This might already been adjusted or asked before but,

Aika, any chance you will tweak the Dignity rates?

Might just be me but i feel like the loss rate is to severe, even if the current loss is what you want it at, the "recovery/gain/positive" is to small/slow.

Maybe add something like a meditation skill or some other way to recover faster/heavier.

    //Thanks for a wonderfull game :D

    1. I don't feel that they are imbalanced at the moment. There should be a real consideration made by the player on whether to try and keep humiliation low. High humiliation means high bimbo which means more unfriendly monsters. If it goes down too slowly or regenerates too fast, this factor isn't enough of a threat and players will never attempt to prioritise dignity by not wearing the sluttiest clothes and not submitting to monsters.

    2. I've always felt like Dignity was a pointless stat to worry about, since unless you decide to skip most of the content and go straight for the win(in this case, the hotel entrance(?)), you'll inevitably end up a moronic bimbo at the end. Unless you abuse the 'massage boobs' function.
      That's just my experience.

    3. The 'win' though is defeating the minotaur and getting the stats to take him on takes time, and if you don't manage sex addiction and dignity well enough, odds are you won't have the intelligence to pull the lever (particularly since you'll need good heel ability, and they tend to increase bimbo levels). That is, unless you want to risk a roaming minotaur while you try to quickly grind DEX/STR at the expense of INT/dignity (certainly an option if you just grab the best stat items possible, ignore dignity/bimbo).

Might just be the way I play (conservatively with a lot of fetishes on), but I feel it's a useful stat.

The stat I usually pay the least attention to is STR (unless it's low enough that I might not be able to get up/move/resist). Speaking of... Aika, is anything happening with cowgirl milk storage at max breast size so there is still a benefit to the outfit?

    4. I've noted it down as something that needs fixing but haven't found a solution I'm happy with yet.

    5. Cool, just glad to hear it's being looked at.

  7. or maybe make it so once it gets pass a certain point i recovers faster to that point.

    ie 100(max positive) 0(max negative)
and once you pass 50, recovery back to 50 is faster/easier.

Just something to think about :D
